Additional Home Learning

Here you will find links to lots of activities to keep learning focused whilst your child is at home.

Basic Skills contains lots of reading, writing and maths activities which you can choose from, have a go at and keep practising as an addition to the weekly plans on our class page. If your child is at home for just a day or two, please use these activities until specific work is provided.

Weekly Plans for self isolating contains the plans that we were following for school, slightly adapted where necessary for learning at home. These sessions can be adapted and swapped around as appropriate, to fit in with your learning time at home. They are from the Autumn Term 2020.

Useful reference
Hello everyone! We are Mrs Arber and Mrs Kelsall and we are teachers in Amethyst Class. We have twenty Year 2s and ten Year 1s and we're always busy learning!
Our Meet the Teacher presentation is in our section of the Video Resource Centre.

Key information

PE is on Monday and Friday.

Reading books are given out on a Monday and must be returned on Thursday. If your child has not finished a book, they can let us know and we will reissue it on the following Monday. Book bags only need to come into school on Mondays and Thursdays.

Library books are given out on Thursdays. Please keep them over the weekend and return them the following Monday.

Reading in class: we read with the children 1:1 once a week on a book in their book colour band. As well as this, we do Whole Class Reading where we share a 'real' book, not from our reading scheme, and share ideas about the theme, language, characters and we read vocabulary and short pieces of text. We are also continuing with phonics based around Phase 5 for Y1s and the statutory spelling for the national curriculum for Y2s.
Our Topic This Term
Our Topic for the rest of this term is Light the Way.

Songs for the Nativity film

Kings Came Riding - sing along track

Our topic last half term:  Home Sweet Home - the History of Shelters. We will also learn about animal habitats in our science focus. We will be learning about how homes have changed and developed from the earliest shelters right into the future with eco-homes!

Here are some of our Stone Age shelters. We learned that people developed tools, and thought about how that would influence our designs.

The Great Fire of London

We brought The Great Fire of London to Life today!
