How we teach

The programmes of study describe a sequence of designing, making, evaluating and problem solving. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Each unit is carefully planned with consideration of parallel year groups to personalise learning.

Each classroom develops a working wall, displaying key vocabulary, learning focus, resources, worked examples or models throughout the unit to support the children’s learning. The children work through different experiments in order to answer an investigative question or to expand their knowledge of a topic.

Parental partnership is key, especially as we continue to give the children an environment where they are learning how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Teachers use their Facebook closed class groups to post pictures so parents have an understanding of what we are teaching and what the children are learning about.
