3 - Watch the Reasoning video below and then see if you can complete the task that is attached.  

Tin Chapter One


This week the focus texts each contain living characters made from metal or wood.
You will explore extracts from Tin by Pádraig Kenny, Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, considering themes such as loyalty, friendship and adventure.


Before reading today’s text, use a dictionary, thesaurus or

to define the words: animate, sentience, embarrassing, condolences and alleviate.

Collect words and phrases which describe Absalom e.g. spidery, predatory, sly, a rattle-snake.


Role on the wall activity 

Draw a simple outline of a human figure to represent Mr. Absalom.

Inside the figure, write words and phrases from the text which betray Mr Absalom’s true feelings and emotions, e.g. sly, a sour look, he could smell money about to change hands.

Outside the figure, write words and phrases which describe the way Mr Absalom is acting/ may appear to others, e.g. smiling, gentle, sympathetic.


What impression of Mr Absalom does this chapter give? Write down your response.

1 - Complete the 8 times table task on My Maths 

2 - This week we are going to look at money.  Your first lesson is waiting for you on My Maths. 

3 - Empty some moneyboxes in your house to see who has saved up the most money, or see which coin you have the most of.  


This week will begin with a look at crocodile facts and films, followed by stories and poems to enjoy together.

Now watch this film and enjoy together:

Watch the film clips again. View a small section of each film at a time, pause the film, discuss key facts and write them down. Also write down any new vocabulary you have encountered. Repeat until the film is ended.
Discuss and review all the information you have found out about crocodiles.

Look up some of the new words you have heard in a dictionary or by using Word Hippo.


Create a fact file/ poster about crocodiles.
Challenge – to include ten sentences about crocodiles in the fact file/poster. Consider writing as if you were a crocodile using the information, e.g.
I am…
I eat…
I only…
I like…
If I am angry, I …
Check spelling and punctuation in each sentence together. Share the fact file/poster with other family members in your house and Mrs Smallshaw.
