Sapphire Class - Year 1 and Year 2

Sapphire Meet the Teacher 2020

Welcome to Sapphire Class!

In Sapphire Class we are a mix of Year 1 and Year 2 children.  Mrs Dixon teaches us on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mrs Chambers is our teacher on Thursdays and Fridays.  We have two fantastic teaching assistants, Mrs Simpson and Mrs Nicholson who also help us with our learning.

Key Information:

  • Our PE days are Monday and Thursday.  Children are encouraged to come in to school wearing their school track suit on these days.  If they do not have a school tracksuit they may get changed into their PE kit prior to PE lessons.

  • Water bottles are required for your child every day.  Please ensure they are filled with fresh water each morning, we will send these home every afternoon to be washed.

  • Reading books will be sent home on Monday.  These are to be read at home, you can record your child's progress on the reading blog.  On Thursday all books should be returned to school, even if your child has not finished reading them.  We will then either issue new reading books or return unfinished books the following Monday.

  • Reading packs are only needed in school on a Monday and Thursday.

  • Fruit and milk (if you have paid for school milk) are now available again so there is no requirement for healthy snacks to be sent in for playtimes.

  • Please ensure everything your child is wearing is clearly labelled!

About our learning:

In our classroom we are proud and independent learners.  We are all encouraged to try our best and to keep going, even when learning gets tricky.  We learn that mistakes are good and help us to become even better learners.

This year we have added extra areas of continuous provision, your child may refer to this as "choosing time" or "the areas".  This provision supports independence and helps your child challenge and extend their learning.  Each area is carefully thought out and frequently changed or enhanced to ensure challenge and relevance and monitoring takes place to make sure the children are accessing different areas regularly.
