Thursday 11th June

Good morning Mars Class!

Here are the lessons for today:

Maths warm up. Fractions. You will need 56 counters for this activity (or buttons or cards or clothes pegs). Start with 56 counters for this example. Write down 1/4 on a piece of paper. Find 1/4 of the 56 counters. Write the number sentence 1/4 of 56 = 14. See photo below. Now find 1/8  of the 56 counters. Write the number sentence 1/8 of 56 = 7. See photo below. Can you see a relationship between a quarter and an eighth of a set of objects? Now find 1/4 and 1/8 of the following numbers and write the number sentences that go with them: 24, 48.

Maths main. Money. Answer as many questions about money as you can on the activity sheet Assessment Money. See the PowerPoint below.

English. Write a letter to The Hungry Caterpillar including a list of foods to stay healthy. Remember to give advice about a balanced diet including protein, carbohydrates, dairy and fruit and vegetables. Provide some advice about not eating too many foods in the same food group or too many sweets, crisps and cake! Use the ideas below to help you write your letter.
Dear Hungry Caterpillar, I think you need to eat different foods so you have a healthier diet. I would recommend that you eat these foods. On Monday, make sure you eat some … so that you get some protein and fruit. On Tuesday … On Wednesday … etc. On Saturday and Sunday you can treat yourself to … Please avoid eating too many … If you follow my advice, I think you will be healthy and very happy. You can then be called The Very Healthy Caterpillar! Thank you. Sign your name. Check your spelling and punctuation when you have finished writing your letter. Send the letter to your teacher to enjoy reading!

D&T. Picture Frame Project. Make your nature picture frame. Look back at your design criteria and planning in the D&T booklet from earlier in the week. Gather together all the materials you need and get going!

Poetry. Pracise our class poem: "Hey, Little Bug!" by Tai-Shona Britto.
