Hello, Mercury Class!

I hope you are enjoying our tasks, this week!

Please see, below, our remote learning tasks for today.

English

Enjoy today’s Story Time at: https://salesbury.primarysite.media/playlist/mercury-class and on facebook at 9am.

Test yourself on your spellings for the test (as seen on the Class Web Page at https://www.salesbury.lancs.sch.uk/mercury-year-3-4/): unbelievable, untidy, unheard, disappoint, disregard, disown, inactive, incorrect, invisible.

Mrs Murphy’s group test yourself with your words you learnt from the HFW List below.

Year 4/Year 3/Table 2

  • The Midnight Gang Watch/listen to the first two chapters – up to 13:15 mins at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCMN8ym0oiA
  • How is the start of this book similar to the others that we have looked at this week? How is it different?
  • Look back at all the extracts that you have read this week. Look at the way David Walliams presents his writing, e.g.

Aaaaaaarrrggghhh

B

A

N

G

!

  • Why do you think he does this? What effect does this have on you, the reader?
  • Now watch The Midnight Gang Film at https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bxc4t4/the-midnight-gang  (Note: PG certificate) Watch from 2:40 mins until 6:20 mins.
  • You are going to write the scene that you have watched in your own words. Think about the events that have happened since Tom entered the children’s ward.
  • Things to think about:
  • Write in 3rd person( he, she, they)
  • Write in the past tense
  • Include speech and remember to use speech punctuation properly
  • Use some of the David Walliams style of writing, e.g. larger words for effect.
  • After you have finished, read your writing out loud and check for spelling and punctuation.

Mathematics

Year 4/Year 3/Table 2

This week we need to work through the activities below – either by looking at the screen and writing the answers down or by printing off the sheets. Follow the instructions carefully and make sure you look through the sheets before you begin, so you can find the answers, extra support materials and the different levels of task - Mild (easier) and Hot (harder). There may also be activities to work with somebody else on. If there is a PowerPoint Presentation, then watch this first, listening to the teaching at the same time. All the answers are provided.

Y4: Column Subtraction, perimeter, area

Y3: Adding and Subtracting Multiples, symmetry and shape

Table 2: Counting, multiples, shape

Other Activity

Thursday/Friday Mini-beast Mini Project Task!

Choose a patch of ground in your garden or out in the community to explore - and dig! Very carefully, collect and observe the mini-beasts you find within the habitat.  Draw a quick sketch of each mini-beast you see. Use the three documents below to help you classify each mini-beast and try to name/label each part of the body.

Choose one mini-beast and observe it closely. Practise drawing one part of it - several times - adding shading, texture and tone as required.  You could even take a photograph of your chosen part and practise editing the photograph – add filters, edit light, tone etc.

Ask a parent to upload your work to facebook or email it to me.
