Thursday 14th May

Good morning Mars Class!

Here are the lessons for today:

Maths warm up. Solve problems, including missing number problems, involving multiplication and division. Draw a large Venn diagram and label it Multiples of 4 and Multiples of 8. See photo below. Write all the multiples of 4 in a line from 4 to 48. Write all the multiples of 8 in a line from 8 to 96. Now put each number in the correct place on the Venn diagram, crossing them off as you go. Are there any multiples of 8 that are not multiples of 4?

Maths main. Selecting the right strategy to solve a calculation. See the Mental or Written? activity below. Look at each calculation in turn and decide how to solve it. Don't choose a written method if you can do the calculation in your head because it saves time. Look for doubling, multiples of 10 and known facts. (You don't need to work the answers out, just choose the best strategy and say why).

Guided Reading. The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl. Read up to p9 of The Enormous Crocodile (up until ‘… I’ve eaten at least three juicy little children!’): http://showpdf.rahnuma.org/children/Stories/Roald.Dahl/Roald.Dahl_The-Enormous-Crocodile.pdf
Alternatively, listen and enjoy this story up to 08:11 mins in the recording below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A0ryZi7cPQ
Discuss what has happened in the story so far.

English. The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl. Make a list of the characters which the crocodile has met along the way, what they are doing. Create a fact file, e.g.

Character 1 Name: Creature: What are they doing?
Character 2 Name: Creature; What are they doing?
Character 3 Name: Creature: What are they doing?

Character 4 Name: Creature: What are they doing?
Return to the film/story to find these details.

French. Understand and say some words for breakfast foods. Listen and repeat the names in French. Then play the PowerPoint again and see if you can name the foods from memory. (Download the PowerPoint then play it as a slide show.)
