Wednesday 10th June

Good morning Mars Class!

Here are the lessons for today:

Maths warm up. Fractions. You will need 40 counters for this activity (or buttons or cards or clothes pegs). Start with 32 counters for this example. Write down 1/4 on a piece of paper. Find 1/4 of the 32 counters. Write the number sentence 1/4 of 32 = 8. See photo below. Now find 1/8  of the 32 counters. Write the number sentence 1/8 of 32 = 4. See photo below. Can you see a relationship between a quarter and an eighth of a set of objects? Now find 1/4 and 1/8 of the following numbers and write the number sentences that go with them: 16, 40.

Maths main. Complete the Add Amounts of Money question set on the LBQ site. https://www.lbq.org/task This will be added at 9am and will work till 6pm on this date. The code you need is: atn

Please add your name (e.g. Matthew) when you start the LbQ lesson otherwise the website records your results under Pupil 1 and Mrs Yarwood will be confused!

Guided Reading. Watch and enjoy the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. You may remember reading this! The Very Hungry Caterpillar
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQKSm1YY
Watch, listen and write down what the caterpillar ate. Discuss the question – Is the caterpillar eating a balanced diet? Think about what you have learned about a balanced diet on Monday.

English. Write an improved, healthier menu for the hungry caterpillar using days of the week. Remember to use a capital letter for each day of the week! Use describing words (adjectives) for the food which you choose each day, e.g.
Monday
Succulent sausages and poached eggs with tomato sauce
Tuesday
Grapefruit segments and a glass of ice-cold milk
Wednesday
Granary toast with sliced cheese and tomatoes on top
Thursday
Chicken kebabs with peppers and onions. Don’t forget garlic sauce!
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Remember to use capital letters for days of the week and check all spelling on your menu.

Spelling. The apostrophe for contraction. Look at the list of full words then write the contractions to go with them. Practise your spellings for this week and then ask a grown up to test you. Try to get full marks. See the PowerPoint below.

D&T. Picture Frame Project. Plan your nature picture frame. (See page 5 of the D&T booklet.) Make a list of all the things you will need to make your design. Then write the order in which you will need to do things when you make your frame.

Poetry. Practise our class poem: "Hey, Little Bug!" by Tai-Shona Britto.
