Wednesday 6th May

Good morning Mars Class!

Here are the lessons for today:

Maths warm up. Start by counting in eights from 0 to 96 and back again, use a 100 number square for support. See below. Then create an array showing 3 rows of 8 using your counters (peanuts, Lego bricks or Oxo cubes etc). Write as many different number sentences as you can for the array. See below. Now rotate the array and write as many number sentences as you can. What do you notice?

Maths main. Measuring. First use a ruler to draw lines measuring 2cm, 5cm, 8cm and 14cm. Ask a grown up to check your measurements. Draw the lines again if necessary. Then use a piece of string, wool or ribbon to measure your arm-span, your stride, the circumference round your head and the circumference round your wrist. Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the lengths of the string, wool or ribbon in centimetres. Add the lengths of your four measurements. What is your total measurement?

English. Write your story. Use your plan from yesterday and use the model text The Stone Trolls in the Talk for Writing booklet below. Draft and edit your new troll story. Remember to describe key features, use exciting adjectives and start some sentences with prepositions.

Guided Reading. Read and/or listen on YouTube to Chapter Three - Stanley the Kite.

After reading, watch this clip from Mary Poppins about flying a kite. Read and singalong for fun! Spot any new vocabulary in the song. Write new words you have found within sentences about a kite.

Spelling. Practise your spellings for this week. All the spellings are from the Year 3 list. Choose your favourite strategy for learning difficult words and use it to help you learn them. See the activity below.
