Children in this key stage gain some of their first organised experiences of computing.
At home, tablets are owned and used widely by many children for fun apps and videos. At school, we start to develop the children’s skills to use a wider range of technology and solve problems by thinking, predicting, doing then assessing.
It is important in the Early Years Foundation Stage to give children a broad, play-based experience of ICT in a range of contexts, including outdoor play. Computing is not just about computers. Early Years learning environments should feature ICT scenarios based on experience in the real world, such as in role play. Children gain confidence, control and language skills through opportunities to explore using non-computer based resources.
We also focus heavily on keeping safe online and educating parents on correct technology use and recommended practice.
