Welcome!

Welcome to Star Class, our class teacher is Miss Cummins and our Teaching Assistants are Miss Garmston and Mrs Barton. Mrs Clifford also comes to Star Class on a Wednesday afternoon.

A typical day in Star Class involves opportunities for learning together as a whole class, working in small groups or independnetly with an adult and of course lots of play, exploration and fun! Our mornings begin by coming into school and greeting each other with  a smile before putting away our things and getting stuck in with our morning jobs. After register we join the whole school for worship then we come back to the classroom for our daily phonics lesson. After phonics we have a movement break and then sit down together for fruit and milk. Our morning learning will either have a maths focus or an english focus. After tidy up time we practise handwriting then get ready for lunch. Lunch times are led by our welfare team of Teaching Assistants and involve time in the lunch hall to eat together and time to play outside. We begin our afternoon with Peer Massage and a reading session. Afternoons are varied throughout the week and involve PE lessons, wider curriculum focuses, Forest School sessions and visits to the library each week. 

We are very lucky to have a fantastic learning environment across both Star classroom and Moon classroom. We share an outdoor area with Nursery and of course have our very sepcial Forest School area. We access the outdoor environment every single day and ensure our days are rich tapestires of moments of calm, quiet, joy, wonder and excitement. 

A little bit about me!

Hello, my name is Miss Cummins! This is my sixth class at Salesbury and I am so excited to be teaching Reception in Star Class this year! I think teaching is one of the most magical jobs in the world and I am very passionate about early years education. I have a masters in Early Childhood Developmental Psychology and I am also a qualified Forest School Leader. I love our weekly Forest School sessions in Reception- they are always the highlight of the week! I can't wait to get to know you all this year and for the wonderful learning journey we will be going on together.
