Curriculum Questions
As a school, we love talking about teaching and learning and our primary curriculum. If you have any further questions, please forward these to Mrs Berryman, Headteacher.
Remote Education
Attendance is essential for all pupils. They need to get the most from their school experience - be with friends, make good progress, manage their wellbeing and take up opportunities.
Where access to school has been restricted or there has been a school closure, alternative lessons will be posted on the class pages of the website.
Communication with the class teacher will be facilitated and during extended periods of school closure, online lessons will be provided.
Support will always be available through school. We will work with the local authority and the catering team to provide those children in receipt of benefit-related free school meals a lunch parcel or voucher, as advised at the time.
For children suspended or excluded from school, work will be set to complete at home.
Reading and Phonics
At Salesbury, we teach phonics using the Monster Phonics scheme which is an enhanced systematic synthetic phonics programme - this is introduced in our nursery and taught throughout EYFS and Key Stage 1. . It teaches phonics in a comprehensive structured progression but provides additional multi-sensory support to make learning more memorable and engaging. It uses colour coding and monster sound cues to support learning when children encounter long vowels, silent letters, and tricky letters. This additional support is used consistently and then cleverly phased out, creating confident independent readers. And, it’s not just about the colours; the monsters themselves each represent a sound which brings phonics to life. This creates engagement, and speeds up the learning process for everyone. Children learn to read through the Monster Phonics reading scheme.
Religious Education
Salesbury C.E Primary School: Religious Education
At Salesbury, we teach high-quality Religious Education through QuestfulRE. On a quest to discover more about religion and world views, pupils will learn more about themselves, the world, the importance of relationships and how to be neighbours. Questful RE provokes challenging questions about meaning and purpose, truth and values, identity and belonging. Offering pupils authentic encounters with living faith communities Questful RE equips them with religious literacy and diversity dexterity.
If you have any questions about how we teach R.E. and what this looks like then please do contact the Headteacher or Subject Leader for R.E.
