Unit 1 - Everywhere Around Us - A Local History Study
EYFS children will compare transport they see now in Salesbury and beyond with transport from the past.
Key Stage 1 children will begin to imagine, recreate and understand Salesbury C.E. Primary School in the past.
Lower Key Stage 2 children will delve deeper into the history of Salesbury C.E. Primary School using primary and secondary sources and communicate their findings.
Year 4 and 5 will find out more about the history of cotton and textiles in the local area and how this contributed to homes and buildings in the Salesbury area.
Year 5 and 6 will drop down the road into Ribchester and use the site, the ruins and the artefacts to discover more about the Roman presence in the local area in the past.
Unit 2 - All Things Bright and Beautiful - a scientific exploration of the local area
EYFS children will discover the local wildlife - the winged variety - they will find out more about their life cycles, their habitats, their diet and how we can nurture them so they have a safe haven in Salesbury.
Key Stage 1 children will explore plant growth - recognising the role and function of plants and trees as part of a healthy lifestyle. They will learn the vocabulary associated with parts of plants and trees and learn to recognise the plants and trees in our local area.
Lower Key Stage 2 will develop their understanding of plant growth to incorporate a discovery into seed dispersal and plant reproduction.
Year 4 and 5 will develop their knowledge of life cycles of both plants and creatures found in the local area including plant reproduction.
Year 5 and 6 will develop familarity and expertise in using methods of classification to explore characteristics of living things e.g. vertebrate, invertebrate and learn to describe the characteristics of flowering plants, mosses, ferns and conifers. They will be able to define the term 'micro-organism' and providing examples.
